Our Design and Business Values
Environmental
At Barbara Decor, we love to redecorate and we love to shop. However, we are increasingly concerned about the growing impact fast furniture is having on the environment. Just like fast fashion, fast furniture encourages homeowners to constantly update their homes in order to keep up with design trends, which means more money out of your pocket and more junk in the landfill.
The EPA estimates that over 12,000 tons of furniture, rugs and carpets are sent to the landfill each year. That’s roughly equivalent to one million school buses! This number is growing every year.
When you hire Barbara Decor you can be sure you’re not causing undue harm to the environment while revitalizing your space. We are an eco-friendly operation that exclusively uses upcycled items wherever possible.
We make spaces to reflect your individual passions instead of passing trends. Not only does our method keep bulk out of the landfill, but it also creates designs that are a unique reflection of you, and therefore don’t require constant refurbishing. After working with us, your home will be one of a kind; a haven you will love for years to come.
Social
Our team is committed to social causes. At the center of our business values is a commitment to give back to the local community that supports us. We are a woman-owned business that donates ten percent of all profits to causes supporting the empowerment of women.
Currently, we are focused on raising funds to support women in addiction recovery. Largely in part to the growing opiate epidemic, records numbers of Americans are in need of support during their recovery from drugs and alcohol. While Chattanooga is blessed to have awesome in-patient rehabilitation facilities, there is a shortage of women’s sober living facilities for those who need additional support after leaving treatment.
These living facilities can be the difference between recovery and relapse for women who often have no safe space to live. Because of this, we are earmarking funds to put towards the establishment of women’s halfway housing in the Chattanooga area.
